Heidelberg, Germany, April 16, 2005.
Another classic German landscape, this university town (second oldest in
Europe, established 1386) is now largely given
over to tourism. That’s the Neckar River,
flowing west toward the Rhine. The view is from the slope beside the
enormous castle that towers over the place.
Below, views east, north, and west from the top of the 16th century
Heiliggeistkirch, the Lutheran church in the middle of the scene above. Red-tile roofs in all directions (the sharp
eye will find the woman reading a newspaper on her rooftop deck at bottom
right).
