DavaScrap

Recovered steel, Davå Power Plant, Umeå, Sweden, September 16, 2006. Dåva converts household waste and biomass into hot water for heating, cold water for cooling, and 15 megawatts of electricity. It is one of the world's most efficient power plants. At first, they paid a firm to haul away this scrap, and dump it.  But almost everything has value, and now they ship the steel to the Chinese!  In a nation of smart people, this plant showcases some of the very smartest ideas.
